The role of the writer

Making larger roles for females in the film lord Of The Rings

They did this as in the book females didn't have a big part so they made female characters more involved in the film to make the romance scenes more affective. For example ,Arwen only had a page in the original book as a poem so she was given major role. They did this to make the film more modern as in the older days women where seen not able to much only men was to work .now in modern times it is more equal, men and women can do the same jobs and act and have in this case some of the women have a major  role unlike the book  . one of the ways they did this  is they gave her more lines from other characters in the book.

Taking out certain characters in the film

They did this as they thought it had nothing to do with the main story line. They did it in the way that it looked like the events with those characters could of happened but was not shown in the film. As they wanted to concentrate on the main story because the book was so big and detailed they had to cut a lot out of it as they could only make three films. One of the characters that was kicked out was tom bomberdil.

working with the actors as characters to get ideas

They did this to describe the past of the different races in the story for example they took the actor who was playing Gimily. They asked him questions and he would answer as his character and he used to describe the dwarfs also another example is when explained stuff that happened in the past they used Gandalf  to explain these events.

Exposition

Exposition explains the past to the audience so they know what happened prior to the beginning of the film. In some cases there are characters who show the audience prior events like in the lord of the rings Gandalf and Galadriel.
